

I would still highly recommend a Microswiss Hot End for an inexpensive and reliable hot end. It was nothing fancy, but it was a tank and got the job done. My machine is a direct drive and never had issues with heat creep or retraction. For the past several months I'd been running a microswiss on my FT5 with no issues whatsoever.

I've had a lot of success with both Microswiss and e3d products. Is there any particular benefit to the E3D? I guess upgrading to a Titan, Titan Aero or Volcano hotend is a draw? But how about your basic setup? So, is the main heat creep issue with Microswiss vs E3D really that the heat sink on the most Microswiss upgrades makes proper cooling hard? E3D upgrades include a fan, and the design of the heatsink makes it impossible to pin it against the gantry, reducing airflow. On the other hand, when I look on the Prusa forums, when I see complaints, sometimes due to the inadequate cooling from the 4010 Noctua fan. When Microswiss owners fix their cooling and retraction, heat creep problems seem to be resolved. You see heat creep complaints for the Microswiss, but not so much for the E3D. Looking at the Microswiss and E3D V6 all metal hotends, most of the reported issues seem to be related to assembly problems or heat creep. But I'm thinking about upgrading so that I can push filament through faster for 100+ mm/sec speeds ( 32-bit and/or klipper). It prints fine off the SD card for "draft" quality prints at 80mm/sec on simple shapes. It prints well, and with the upgraded metal extruder, careful build and calibration, I don't have any problems with extrusion. I've been looking into upgrading my hotend (totally stock Ender 3).
